Hoodia is the latest big news in the weight loss industry, the next thing companies are plugging to entice dieters to cough up and buy their products. In fact Hoodia Gordonii is not a new discovery, but one that is getting new interest as the fight against fat continues.
Quite often, if a diet supplement is given extensive news coverage, it is likely related to something negative. In recent times, there have been reports on the health implications associated with many weight loss treatments that did very little to burn fat but much to harm hearts and bank accounts.
With Hoodia, there is attention, but of a completely different kind. Mostly positive with celebrity endorsements thrown in. National and International media have given Hoodia Gordonii large amounts of exposure and while not everybody believes it is the magic bullet to dieting, there are few unfavourable things to say about it.
The technical name is Hoodia Gordonii. a prickly cactus and it has the ability to store water in its roots and thick stems. Because the Hoodia plant is common to the desert, the water stores help it to survive the heat. Hoodia is indigenous to South Africa, though it may also be found in other dry regions. The Hoodia plant is categorized by its cactus-like facade, green stalks covered in sharp spikes, and by the brown/pink flowers that sometimes appear from the stalks. Cut away the spikes and dig into the flesh of the plant, and you have the prime ingredient for a powerful appetite suppressant.
It is rumoured that the dietary benefits to taking Hoodia were discovered in Africa, by people who had initially used the plant for other healng purposes. Noting that people who ate the plant could work for an extended period of time without eating as much, these same people realised the plant could act as an appetite suppressant.
As highlighted by the many media reports done on Hoodia before, ingesting the plant can cause a person to want less food and in turn lose weight. While more intense scientific study has made known that it is not wholly conclusive that Hoodia is effective for all users as a diet supplement, no severe side effects are recorded.
However, informal tests of Hoodia in an extracted kind has revealed loss of hunger in some users. As with taking any diet aid, it is wise to remember that a supplement is just that. It is an aid, not the only key to safe, effectual weight loss. When used with a healthy eating plan and exercise, a supplement can greatly boost your weight loss if taken consistently.
In this instance, Hoodia is sure to be effective.
